Most forced air heated homes have a single thermostat, and therefore a single zone. This is due to the fact that forced air systems are inherently difficult, and expensive, to zone. Radiant homes have numerous zones because they are easy and inexpensive to create. This allows you to keep one bedroom at 66ºF (19ºC), another bedroom at 72ºF (22ºC) all while maintaining 70ºF (21ºC) in a family room. You can turn the heat off in a vacant guest room, or turn down rooms for certain times of the day when they are unoccupied. Will one section of your home be too hot in the morning due to solar gains while other parts still need heat? Easily program your thermostat to heat only the areas of the house that need heat during those hours. Directing the right amount of heat to the right rooms is be a big energy saver.
