I currently operate the boiler at 170 degrees during the cold months; and I’m wondering if the water temp will be too high for the floor heat??

hello; I’m thinking about a reno in a large ensuite. I currently heat my house with hot water heat through a boiler. I have no in-floor heating at this time, but am considering installing during the reno. I’m thinking of installing an additional loop for the ensuite (and add to it during a future bathroom reno) – using your warmboard in the process. I currently operate the boiler at 170 degrees during the cold months; and I’m wondering if the water temp will be too high for the floor heat??

Hello. Thank you for your question.

You are correct – running 170F water through a Warmboard system is much too hot. Most of our radiant heating systems run between 80-110ºF. The best method to bring down the water temperature for this radiant floor loop (loops), is to install a 3-way adjustable thermostatic mixing valve (we can recommend the Caleffi 521 as a good option) and a circulation pump. This will allow you to maintain water temps in the rest of the house while circulating lower temp water through the radiant floor panels.
