HP Comm Failure

Error Code E3: CRITICAL
The heat pump is not communicating with the Warmsource and is unable to respond to commands. This may be due to power or wiring issues. Contact your HVAC professional for assistance.

Solution:

The heat pump is not communicating with the Warmsource. Contact an HVAC professional or contact Warmboard technical support for further assistance.

Ensure the heat pump has power and is properly connected to the Warmsource via the RS-485 Modbus communication wiring.

Outdoor unit power: Verify that breakers and fused disconnects have not tripped or blown. If tripped breakers or blown fuses are present, investigate the overcurrent condition before proceeding. If no overcurrent condition is present, check for power at the unit or verify the unit itself is powering the remote display. Correct any power issues or reach out to Warmboard technical support for more assistance.

Modbus control wiring: Verify that the outdoor unit is addressed properly. With single heat pump systems, verify that the unit is addressed as unit 1 at the remote display. With dual heat pump systems, the units must be addressed as either unit 1 or unit 2. Units cannot share an address.

If unit addresses are correct, refer to manufacturing documentation and the WCS planset for wiring information. Potential causes may include loose wires at connectors or breaks in the wiring between the Warmsource and the heat pump. Verify that wires are landing at correct terminals and wires have continuity throughout their whole length without any short conditions.

Communication can be checked through the Smart Reset Controller (SRC) in the Warmsource by navigating to the “Equipment” menu and pressing the “Heat Pump Detect” button.
