Technical Support

Welcome to the support page for the Warmboard Comfort System (WCS). Before proceeding, ensure any suggested resolutions shown on your thermostats have been followed. The suggestions below aim to provide more complete detail to help remedy a system alert.

(Note: If the issue you are experiencing is unrelated to any messages on your thermostat, call our Technical Department at 1.800.775.5591)

Manifold Controller (MC) Communication Alert

Message Screen:
A manifold controller cannot be found.

Course of action:
Determine which manifold controller (
MC) is affected and perform a power reset and antenna adjustment.

Determining affected units:
Access the Smart Reset Controller (SRC) in the Warmsource. Navigate to the Network menu, tap Signal Reliability. On the next screen, select LoRa Test. Reference the results and check on any of the pieces of equipment that are not communicating.

MCs are small grey boxes which are generally found with the manifolds on a garage wall or in a closet behind an access panel. Their locations are noted in the planset if you do not find the correct controller at the known manifold locations. The MCs can be identified by the first number on the port label (Ports 1.1-1.8 are found on MC1, ports 2.1-2.8 are found on MC2, etc).

There are a few simple steps to try to resolve this issue. The most likely issue is either with the power supply or a poor wireless signal. Let’s get started!Warmboard Manifold Controller

Warmboard MC

Examples of a MC and how it may be found by a manifold.

Reset and check for power

To reset the unit, disconnect the MC from power for 30 seconds before reconnecting it.

Outcome A: The lights on your MC should flash on, signifying a successful restart.

  • Repeat this process at each affected MC.
  • Go back to the SRC and run the LoRa Test again. The MC should be visible now. If the equipment is still missing, try adjusting the antenna.

Outcome B. If the lights don’t turn on, ensure the outlet being used by the MC has power. The bottom LED should blink periodically on a powered MC. Try plugging in another electrical appliance into the outlet to make sure it has power.

  • If the new electrical device does not power up, you will need to reset the breaker or find another way to reactivate power to that outlet
  • If the new electrical device does power on, that means there is an issue with the MC itself. Contact Warmboard 1.800.775.5591.

Antenna adjustment

Each MC has two adjustable black antennas.

  • Ensure each is securely attached. Tighten accordingly. If one, or both, antennas are missing, contact Warmboard 1.800.775.5591.
  • Reorienting the antennas can help. Consider aligning the antennas vertically or horizontally according to the layout of your house. If in the basement, try vertical. If one the far left or right side of the house, try angling towards the center of the home.
  • Go back to the SRC and run the LoRa Test again.

Resolution
After completing these steps, the alerts on your thermostats should be resolved and communication should be improved. If the alert persists or reappears, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Technical Department 1.800.775.5591.

Thermostat Alerts

Message Screen:

A thermostat is unable to connect to the network.

Course of action:
Determine which thermostat is affected and perform a self reset or check for power.

Determining affected units:
Access the Smart Reset Controller (SRC) in the Warmsource. Navigate to the Network menu, tap Signal Reliability. On the next screen, select LoRa Test. Reference the results and check on any of the pieces of equipment that are not communicating.

Thermostat and zoning information can be found on the WCS planset. If no planset is available, a list of zone names can be found organized by zone number while sharing a program from any thermostat.

Message Screen:

This thermostat is unable to connect to the network.

Course of action: Perform a self reset or check for power check.

If this error persists, unplug the Warmsource boiler from the wall for 30 seconds, then plug back in.

Thermostat Reset

To reset the thermostat, press the “Self Reset” button found in System Tests in the Settings sub-menu.You may also simply remove the unit from its power supply in the wall. To remove the unit, grip the thermostat face firmly and pull outward. Snap the face of the thermostat back into place to power the unit.

Outcome A: The thermostat will power up after about 10 seconds.

  • Repeat the previous process with all affected thermostats.
  • Go back to the SRC and run the LoRa Test again.
  • The thermostat should be visible now and the alerts will clear in the next few minutes.

Outcome B: The thermostat does not power up after about 10 seconds.

  • Swap the affected thermostat onto the back plate of a working thermostat to verify thermostat function.
  • If the affected thermostat is able to be powered elsewhere. Have an electrician check the wiring to the affected thermostat back plate.

If the issue persists, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Technical Department 1.800.775.5591.

Note:

Your Warmsource Comfort System has a built-in algorithm where, in the event the thermostat loses network connection, your system can utilize other nearby thermostats to keep your whole heating system functioning.

Actuator Alert

Message Screen:
An actuator may be unplugged.

Course of action:

Locate the gray MC boxes. These are generally found in a garage or in a closet behind an access panel. Check for any MCs that have steady yellow lights or red lights that have persisted for longer than 10 minutes.

Actuators connect to a manifold and open (and close) to allow the flow of water to areas the thermostat has determined need heat. On rare occasions an actuator can fail or become disconnected from the manifold controller, prompting this alert. Here’s how to resolve the issue.

Outcome A: Yellow lights on MC.

  • If the actuator for that affected port has come loose from the connector, reconnect the actuator to the MC.
  • If no actuator can be found to connect to the port, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Technical Department 1.800.775.5591.
  • If you reconnect the actuators and the alerts persist, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Technical Department 1.800.775.5591.

Outcome B: Red lights persist for longer than 10 minutes, the actuator may not be opening, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Technical Department 1.800.775.5591.

Outcome C: No red or yellow lights can be found on Manifold Controllers.

  • Reset all the MCs in the system and check for the alerts to clear from the thermostats.
  • If alerts persist, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Technical Department 1.800.775.5591.

If you have verified that an actuator has become unresponsive, feel free to disconnect the actuator from the manifold. This helps because a loop without an actuator will get flow if any other zone(s) in your system turn on. In either case when time allows, give our Technical Department a call at
1.800.775.5591 or email support@warmboard.com and we can work toward next steps.

*If you have multiple Warmsource boilers, feel free to call for additional assistance.
