What is Warmboard?

Load Comparison: Warmboard Versus Concrete

The dominant framing system in the US is Western Platform Framing. Plywood subfloor is typically the “platform” of that system. Warmboard is a 1 1/8″ radiant panel and structural subfloor all-in-one and replaces the conventional plywood subfloor becoming, itself, the structural platform of your framing system.

It is rated to carry all of the point loads, uniform loads and horizontal shear loads typically carried by 3/4″ subfloor. (Review ICC-ES report). It is ideal for 16″ or 24″ on center joists. It also works with 19.2 joist centers but this is not an optimum spacing due to increased waste factors. It is a particularly stiff and strong subfloor and will deliver a more solid feeling floor for your clients.

Here’s what our customers say:

“This is the greatest system, truly amazing!”

Before deciding on Warmboard, I compared it to all other radiant systems. As a retired firefighter who understands thermodynamics, Warmboard seemed to be the most logical and most workable system. Having now built and lived in a Warmboard house, and in the process of building another house with Warmboard, I can say without a doubt that Warmboard is the easiest system to install, the greatest system to use, and it provides the most even heat you can imagine. If you can put down a subfloor, you can install Warmboard. The 1 1/8″ thick subfloor gives a really good, solid floor feel throughout the house. The best thing is that the response time is extremely fast. You can turn on your thermostat and within a half-hour it’s warm, within an hour it’s hot. This is the greatest system, truly amazing!

“Ease of installation is very impressive.”

When building a custom log home one of the challenges has always been how to manage the mechanicals of other heat systems that can take up 10-12 inches of space within the floor cavity (usually on the second floor). With Warmboard we only have to manage with about 2 inches of space, resulting in a huge savings of overhead space. Warmboard’s simplicity of design, quality of construction and ease of installation is very impressive, we would recommend Warmboard for any log home construction.
