Every year the Northeast Spa and Pool Association holds its competition and judging to determine the best design of an outdoor space. Long Island Newsday reported that about 200 entries from pool buildings located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut were submitted. Cipriano Landscape Design, a luxury gunite pool builder won the "Best Gunite Swimming Pool Award," for its design and completion of "The Violin Pool" in Westchester County, New York.
According to the news source, the owner of the home is an amateur violin player and collector and wanted his love of the instrument to be the inspiration behind the pool and outdoor space design. The pool's shape is an exact replica of a 1700s Stradivarius violin - complete with strings, a chinrest, a tail piece, a purfing, f-holes and a bridge. Surrounding the pool is a patio designed to further boost the comfort and style of this wonderful outdoor space. The patio has been outfitted with a number of green features to reduce the cost of running the space for long periods of time. Light emitting diode bulbs are used to illuminate spaces and a radiant floor heating system running from the pool to the outdoor and indoor patio portions of the house all save energy and improve the comfort of the space.
A radiant floor heating system will run outdoors and provide the homeowner and his guests the ability to stay warm and comfortable, regardless of what the temperature is. The eco-friendly technology is being used outdoors so that those using the heated pool in the winter can walk to and from the house to the water without having cold feet. That comfort is extended in to further warm everyone using the unusual outdoor space.
