A series of new colors and new patterns for floors have been highlighted by The Irish Times as the potential emerging trends for 2012, as interior designer Alanna Galagher lent a few tips for the upcoming year.
Galagher noted that people are spending more time in their homes and they often want to create spaces that combine both comfort and efficiency.
A radiant heating system helps a homeowner accomplish both of these goals, as they are able to install any type of surface over the subfloor technology, which provides a comforting warmth throughout a residence while limiting the amount of energy that is needed to reach a sufficient level of heat.
According to the Times, there has been a return to the use of hardwood flooring that has become a trend in the industry, as well as the installation of a comforting carpet and vibrant rugs in certain living spaces.
"Texture on floors includes patterned velvet carpets available at TC Matthews and vibrant rugs, such as Rug Star’s Checkerboard Funk, available at Rug Art. These take flooring to a new level," Galagher told the news source.
A radiant heating system allows a homeowner to easily place a rug or carpet above their flooring, and eliminates the need for cutting the material so that it fits around a bulky radiator that is needed to provide warmth. Because the technology doesn't require the use of visible heating appliances, it helps to free up space and limit the unsightly items from a home.
The technology also helps to provide a cleaner atmosphere in the home, as families who spend a lot of time indoors will no longer be exposed to the contaminants and allergens that can build up in radiators, heating ducts and air vents.
