Joe and Patty St. Lawrence of Williamson County, Tennessee, decided to renovate their home in an effort to maintain a more sustainable lifestyle and to limit their carbon footprint, according to The Tennessean.

The couple began a project that took more than 16 months to complete, as the home was completely transformed in a renovation that resembled the construction of a new house, reported the news source.

While the work took a significant amount of time to complete, as new furnishings and modern technologies including a radiant heating system were only a small addition to the house that now features a new roof, the couple is pleased with the results.

"In the end, we made the decision to do this because we loved the neighborhood we were in," Patty told The Tennessean. "We have about 3½ acres here with trees all around us, and this is the area that all our friends are in."

A radiant heating system can help to create a comfortable and modern atmosphere for families, as the technology provides quiet warmth while eliminating the sounds and visible air ducts that come with more traditional systems.
