Design Process
Warmboard is a 1-1/8″ thick structural sub-floor panel in combination with a highly conductive
aluminum surface that provides both excellent structural values and highly efficient radiant floor
heat. Because of its dual nature, it is essential that Warmboard be integrated into the
construction documents to ensure that best use is made of its excellent structural and
thermodynamic characteristics. Inclusion in the construction documents will also ensure
consistent bidding and cost effective installation by bidding contractors. Designing Warmboard
into your projects is simple. Just follow these easy steps:
- As soon as it is determined that Warmboard is the appropriate solution for your client’s project,
please contact the Warmboard Regional Manager (RM) for your area. If you do not have his /
her contact data please call 877-338-5493. - If structural plans are not yet complete, the RM will consult with the structural engineer to
optimize the floor framing plan if needed to most efficiently integrate Warmboard. In most
cases, Warmboard integrates seamlessly with conventional structural design and framing
practice. Once completed, preliminary plans are sent to us, preferably in an AutoCAD format. - The RM will consult with you regarding zoning preferences, floor covering selections and other
data necessary for proper design. - The Warmboard design team will produce a preliminary design for review and markup. Our
documents will include panel layout, tubing layout, manifold locations, various detail drawings
and notes. These documents should be thoroughly reviewed to ensure that they meet your
client’s needs. We provide one revision based on your markup at no cost. - The Warmboard design team will provide a final set of documents, including corrections based
on your markup for inclusion into your full set of construction documents. These documents are
typically 1/4″ scale plans formatted for D sized sheets. If you would like a different sheet size or
scale, simply let your RM know your requirements and we will accommodate them. We can
supply plans in the AutoCAD file format, or plot them on bond paper or vellum per your request. - Because Warmboard provides both structural and mechanical functions, the Warmboard pages
in your plan set are designated as WB-1, WB-2…. etc. A note should be placed on the Structural
pages: “See WB-2 (or other appropriate page number(s)) for Warmboard structural sub-floor
details”. A note should be placed on the Mechanical pages: “See WB-3 (or other appropriate
page number(s)) for Warmboard radiant heat details”.
Thank you for selecting Warmboard for your clients’ comfort. Warmboard is the pinnacle in
radiant performance. With over 20 million feet in service, we are confident that our design team
can provide you with documents commensurate with our radiant performance.
