What is Warmboard?

Forced air causes stratification of warm air…

…Warmboard heats evenly and efficiently from the floor up.

Load Comparison: Warmboard Versus Concrete

Warmboard is an excellent value when considered as part of a complete radiant system. Of course given the quality of the plywood we begin with, the amount of highly conductive aluminum in each panel and quality of our manufacturing process, Warmboard is not inexpensive when considered as a single element of your radiant system. But the numerous job site and system efficiencies, which are inherent to Warmboard result in the highest performance for a bottom line cost that is competitive with systems that simply do not perform as well.

  • Because of its high conductivity, Warmboard’s 12″ on center tubing spacing outperforms other panels even those using 6″ on center tubing. This spacing also results in lower material and labor costs.
  • Because Warmboard is so exceptionally efficient, most Warmboard installations require water temperatures well below 120° F. Low water temperatures give you the option of using condensing boilers, solar, low cost, dedicated, conventional water heaters or even ultra high efficiency ground source heat pumps. (The graph on the right illustrates Warmboard¹s efficiency. All information taken from industry technical manuals and assume good insulation practices.)
  • Radiant heating cuts average energy use as much as 20% over forced-air systems, and the low water temperatures typical of Warmboard installations cut energy bills even more (View a technical water temperature chart).
  • Warmboard systems are easily zoned, further reducing energy usage by heating only the occupied rooms or regions. Fast response means you won’t wait a long time to heat up that guest room when it is unexpectedly needed.
  • Radiant heating is ideal for cathedral and open beamed ceilings because energy is not wasted in heating high spaces.
  • New “High Velocity” air conditioning is a perfect match with a Warmboard Radiant System.
  • Most importantly, because Warmboard is designed to smoothly integrate with conventional construction practice, many of the hidden costs of radiant are eliminated. You will save on labor costs throughout construction.

Here’s what our customers say:

“The best installation for the lowest front end cost”

“When Warmboard became available I recognized it as the most impressive improvement in hydronic floor installation technology. It includes the ease of installing the tube from above the floor, aluminum heat spreader plates, zone design capability and ability to be installed under any type of floor finish materials with a minimum of additional preparation and no need to design for and allow for an increased dead load on the floor framing system.

Warmboard has the promise of being the best installation for the lowest front end cost, when comparing all the tradeoffs, and should result in the lowest life-time operating costs. We have started to recommend it over all other installation details due to our experience [of over 30 years] in this field.”

“The design documents were excellent.”

Theoretically, it just seems smarter to have heat on top, rather than below the subfloor. The people involved in my new home project did a great job. I installed a boiler with a sensor that assesses the exterior temperature, allowing us to really control the fuel costs. I am convinced the savings offset the cost of the Warmboard system. For example, our winter weather can drop to 20 degrees below zero, and in our previous home fuel heating with propane was costing us six to seven thousand dollars a year, this year it cost only one thousand dollars. That is a huge savings! The design documents Warmboard supplied were excellent, and we have 11 zones in our home. Also, as a builder I recognize that Warmboard reduces labor costs, and since you know where the tubing is, repairs are simple. The Warmboard system just makes sense!
